Emma joined SPMB in August 2019 and is a senior analyst on Dave Mullarkey’s team. She returned to the Bay as a local from Palo Alto after graduating from Dartmouth. In college, she loved studying empathy and user experience through her Cognitive Science major and Human-Centered Design minor. Emma is passionate about improving mental health and wellness in her communities, particularly for young people. On weekends she likes to get outside doing just about any activity, but especially hiking!
Where have you traveled and where would you still like to go?
My mom lived in the International House when she went to Berkeley (go Bears!) and so throughout my family’s travels we have reconnected with old friends across the world, including the Basque country in Spain, Padua in Italy, Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, and Hong Kong. I would love to go anywhere where I can connect with family friends and learn about their views, values, and lifestyle. I’m also excited to meet and make my own new international friends wherever I go!
What are you passionate about?
I love Human-Centered Design! I think that problem solving should be deeply rooted in empathy and I’m passionate about helping people apply this to not only work and school, but also your everyday life. Some of my past projects include empowering women in the Computer Science major and working to reduce the number of preventable deaths in the hospital.
What character in Game of Thrones are you most like?
Yara Greyjoy. She is very in-tune with the values of her people and I think that, combined with her strategic intelligence and strong will, is what makes her a great leader. Yara is proud of where she comes from and is intensely devoted to family.
Which band would you love to tour with?
Lake Street Dive has great musicians and their lead vocalist, Rachel Price, is fantastic. I would be stoked for any and all sing-alongs on the road with them.
